HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR 2025?

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

  • Be cautious of immigration scams and notaries! Always consult a trusted immigration attorney.
  • Consult with an immigration attorney! You may qualify for an immigration benefit, but ensure it’s a legitimate basis for obtaining status.
  • Apply for U.S. citizenship! If you are a lawful permanent resident and meet the requirements, apply as soon as possible. If you have a pending petition for a family member, consult with an attorney before naturalizing.

WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS?

  1. Do not open the door to Immigration or police officers unless they have a court order. Ask them to pass it under the door before opening.
  2. You have the right to remain silent. You are not required to answer questions.
  3. Do not sign anything without speaking to an attorney.
  4. If you are not detained, you have the right to leave. Ask if you are free to go if unsure.
  5. If detained, you have the right to an interpreter.

TIPS IF YOU ARE IN THE U.S. WITHOUT IMMIGRATION STATUS

  • Consult with multiple attorneys to ensure you receive legitimate advice.
  • Keep copies of important documents, such as passports, birth certificates, and USCIS receipts, with a trusted person.
  • Prepare an emergency plan for your family in case of detention.

DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY EMERGENCY PLAN?

  • Decide who will care for your children if you are unable to do so.
  • Keep important documents organized and easily accessible.
  • Apply for passports for your children and ensure dual citizenship if applicable.
