Travel Ban 2026
Summary: Effective January 1, 2026, additional countries have been added to the Administration’s travel ban list for various reasons, prohibiting citizens from those countries from coming into the United States if they do not have a valid visa.
In June of 2025, the current Administration issued full and partial travel bans for citizens of various countries wanting to enter the United States. In December 2025, the Administration issued updated lists of countries for both the full and partial travel bans. These updated lists will be in effect starting January 1, 2026. If people from these countries already have a valid visa for entry, they will still be permitted to enter.
The following countries were added to the full travel ban list: Burkina Faso, Laos, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Syria. The countries that were already on the full travel ban list include: Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
The partial travel ban list was updated to add some countries and remove others. The list of the partial travel ban countries, as of December 31, 2025, include: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. There is a suspension of various immigrant and nonimmigrant visas from these countries.
There is also a limitation on travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.
For these travel bans, there are exceptions. Some of these exceptions include people who are US Permanent Residents, dual nationals, people with certain nonimmigrant visas, athletes for events like the Olympics or the World Cup, etc.
