Latino Youth Conference Will Attract Nearly 2,000 Participants to Westminster Schools

Annual conference motivates, prepares Georgia’s Latino youth to go to college, pursue careers; conference registration now full

ATLANTA, Ga. (Oct. 15, 2014) —

WHAT:   The Latin American Association’s 15th Annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference, a daylong event filled with motivational speakers, workshops and a College and Career Fair for Latino middle and high school students.

The goal of the conference is to motivate Latino youth to pursue higher education. Workshop topics include how to apply for scholarships and financial aid; how to do the college application; how to build your brand; careers in science; etc. Conference registration for students is now full.

The Latin American Association works to ensure that Latino teens graduate from high school and go on to college and careers. Though overall high school dropout rates have been declining, Latinos tend to drop out of high school at a higher rate than other groups. Nationally, the high school dropout rate among Latinos is 17 percent, nearly three times as high as it is among whites and nearly double the rate among blacks, according to the Pew Research Center.
