The typical client who comes to the Latin American Association (LAA) is a single woman living below the poverty level coming to us in a time of crisis. My client Alicia Bernal is no different. She and her husband had been caring for their four grandchildren since her daughter was detained in 2019.

Unfortunately, in August 2020, her husband passed away due to COVID-19. Alicia has faced many hardships since arriving in the U.S. 20 years ago. Last year was a very painful and difficult time for her. Despite the obstacles Alicia faced in 2020, donors like you stepped forward to provide Alicia and her
grandchildren with so much support.

When Alicia needed food for her grandchildren, we were able to provide it from our food pantry. When she needed help paying rent and utilities, we were able to make sure her bills were paid. When she needed emotional support, we were there to listen. We were able to help Alicia and her family because YOU made this possible.

“My grandchildren are my reason for living. You cannot imagine the pain I felt when my husband of 40 years passed away from COVID. The LAA was there for me when I needed it most. They helped me feed my grandchildren and pay rent. I was overwhelmed by the support I received. Because of your support, the
LAA is able to provide for families like mine in times of great need.” – Alicia, LAA Client.

The LAA relies on supporters like you to make a difference in the lives of Latino families in Atlanta and beyond. You can double your impact on the lives of Latino families like Alicia’s today, thanks to the generous support of Mario and Janet Trujillo. All donations made to the LAA in the next four weeks will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000.
