The Latin American Association Presents the 24th Annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference
Saturday, November 11th at Emory University.

This year, the Latino Youth Leadership conference will be held in person on November 11th for 700 middle and high school students.

The Latino Youth Leadership Conference is here to motivate Latinx students to pursue higher education and continue the conversation of exploring pathways to be successful; whether that is a 4-year college, a technical school, or maybe even a trade school.

Hear from motivational speakers; learn about scholarships, how to be a good leader, participate at our college and career expo and so much more.

Let us remind you that success is achievable, that our stories matter, and that although we might be in the middle of a pandemic; our youth can and will persevere.

Jaime Carias

Mr. Carias is a prominent figure in the field of K-12 and higher education, known for his passionate speaking and expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles. With over 15 years of experience, he’s dedicated to culturally attuned programs, social-emotional support for students, and soft skill development. He’s also an author, having written two books, and is working on a memoir about his journey from South Central Los Angeles to academic success. Mr. Carias holds degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and USC, and his impactful work has received recognition in national and local media. He resides in South Central Los Angeles with his dog, Wally.

They reveal deep thoughts on the topic, such as their personal experiences of how being the first in their family to achieve higher education impacted their lives and families.

    The duo also talks about the challenges of being first-generation, such as enduring a steep learning curve to understanding how to operate in a college environment, or convincing their parents that this was their chosen path — and the trials and triumphs that follow.
