Latin American Association Gwinnett Outreach Center is Granted $1 Million from Gwinnett County
When Latinos Thrive, Georgia Prospers
ATLANTA, GA – January 9, 2025 – The Latin American Association (LAA), Georgia’s leading nonprofit serving the Latino community, is proud to announce it has been awarded a $1 million grant from Gwinnett County to support the shelter at the Latin American Association (LAA) Gwinnett Outreach Center, formerly known as HomeFirst Gwinnett. This funding will enable the 20 bed-shelter located near to the center to be operational, offering temporary housing for those in need in the local area.
The LAA assumed management of HomeFirst Gwinnett in mid-2024, and with this significant new grant, the organization is poised to provide life-changing services to individuals facing homelessness.
A Collaborative Effort to End Homelessness in Gwinnett
The LAA Gwinnett Outreach Center is committed to addressing homelessness head-on by connecting individuals in need to essential resources, including the LAA’s wraparound services. Through the Coordinated Entry System, those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, can reach out to the facility by phone, online, or in person to access services that offer a pathway to stability.
The Outreach Center represents a powerful partnership between the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and the Latin American Association, both of which share the mission of developing a coordinated approach to tackling homelessness. This collaboration ensures that services can be delivered, offering critical support ranging from food to SNAP to emergency shelter referrals to longer-term housing solutions such as rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing.
