We are Atlanta’s largest provider of Spanish-language instruction for over 20 years. Our Spanish-language program uses a communicative approach to language learning in order to help students of all levels achieve fluency. We focus on creating an environment that encourages students to feel comfortable to make mistakes so that they can learn and interact with their classmates to become fluent. All of our teachers are native speakers of Spanish from all over the world, or have native speaker proficiency. Unlike others programs, our teachers have Bachelor degrees and some even have a Master’s.

At the Latin American Association, we teach standard Spanish that is considered the correct form of the language. However, we do teach students regional differences in vocabulary and pronunciation. There are many factors that influence how long it will take someone to learn a language, including motivation, experience learning a foreign language and time. It takes approximately 2 years for students to move to the Advanced Level, although you should be able to communicate in Spanish on a limited basis in a short period of time. Learning a language is a long process and it may last a lifetime.

We use as much Spanish as possible in the class, but it is not a total immersion program. Logically, the use of Spanish by the teacher increases with each level.

What students are saying…

“I highly recommend signing up for classes at the LAA. I’ve been taking Spanish classes at the LAA for more than a year now and it’s been a wonderful experience. The intercambio with the adult Spanish students learning English is unlike any other Spanish lesson program I’ve seen. Truly one of a kind and a great organization overall!”

“I like the quality and the price. I like the class schedule of two days a week for two hours, so coming twice a week is easier on me for learning purposes” ~ Paul Kirkley, Southwest employee

“I like that the classes are focused on conversation and speaking and interacting. I enjoy that instructor are able to handle students’ different skilled levels coming into the classes answer more advanced questions without losing track of the material that we are currently covering” ~ Russell Jeter, Professor at Georgia State University

+   Group Spanish Classes

For over 20 years, the Latin American Association has offered Group Spanish Classes in its Buford Highway location. We offer 14 levels of Spanish-language proficiency from Basic to High Advanced. Our classes are small and may range from 5 to 12 students. Classes are offered during the week at noon, in the evening and on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately we cannot offer individual make-up classes and do not provide childcare.

As part of our program, our students enjoy a special feature called intercambio, or exchange, where they periodically get to interact and converse with native speakers enrolled in our English-language classes.
