The Latin American Association’s Compañeros Awards Luncheon is an annual fundraising event that pays tribute to exceptional community leaders and showcases the mission of the LAA. In 2017, the Latin American Association is celebrating the 28th anniversary of the event.
At the Compañeros Awards Luncheon, top executives from Atlanta’s most renowned companies and community leaders join to recognize outstanding corporate partners, individuals and public service officials. Through a prominent keynote speaker and award recipients from the community the Latin American Association shares stories of hope and inspiration.
WHAT: 28th Annual Compañeros Awards Luncheon, a fundraiser where we honor exceptional individuals who are making meaningful contributions to advance the well-being of Latino families
WHO: About 500 guests expected to attend.
In 2016, the award winners included the honorable Dax López, judge in the state court of DeKalb County, and Jeffrey Tapia, former LAA executive director. Keynote speaker was U.S. Treasurer Rosie Ríos.

2017 Keynote Speaker
Catherine Cortez Masto
United States Senator for Nevada
Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has spent her career fighting to protect Nevada families. Cortez Masto served two terms as Nevada’s Attorney General, where she fought to combat drug crime, protect seniors, take on the big banks, and worked to strengthen laws preventing sex trafficking and violence against women. Prior to her service as Attorney General, Cortez Masto worked as an Assistant County Manager for Clark County. She also served as a federal criminal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. and was Chief of Staff to Governor Bob Miller. Cortez Masto currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband, Paul.
In the 115th Congress, Cortez Masto will join six U.S. Senate Committees that will enable her to be a strong advocate for Nevadans: The Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources; the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Rules and Administration; the Committee on Indian Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging.
