The LAA embraces unity and rejects racism

The LAA released the following statement in response to the events in Charlottesville this past weekend:

The recent activities of white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, highlight a national breakdown in race relations, a crescendo in anti-immigrant fervor and a faltering willingness to engage in dialogue across differences.

For nearly half a century, the LAA has tirelessly supported Latino integration and success through loving partnerships with an array of religious and ethnic groups. We have long understood that for Latinos to do well, our communities must do well. We have also long understood that community healing and well-being come through dialogue, loving kindness and the shared notion that the pain of the individual is the pain of the community.

It is this quintessentially Latino principle—bridging and bonding within family and across community—that we believe is the best weapon against hate and racially-motivated violence. We call on all of us, this nation of the people, for the people and by the people, to unite in love and adamantly oppose the kind of evil that we witnessed this weekend in Charlottesville.

El amor vence al odio. Love conquers hate.
